Developing Activities

As a group we want to share and broaden our skills - not only when it comes to music. We want to be conscious of the cultural background of the music we play. Besides, being active helps us during our performances on the stage and on the streets. We were able to participate in the following workshops:

CAPOEIRA

Three months course on the basics of capoeira run by Dominika Rembelska, who is a junior trainer in one of the biggest schools in Warsaw - Beribazu. The course took place between April and July 2005.

BRAZILIAN INSTRUMENTS

Juan Carlos do Nascimento taught us about the use and the technique of playing less known instruments such as berimbao or pandeiro. Brazilians use them in such musical styles as Foro, Embolada, Frevo and Baian and while accompanying capoeira. The workshop took place on August 30th 2005.

NIPPY NOYA

The legendary instrumentalist accepted our invitation and held master classes concerning new techniques of playing percussion instruments, the art of improvisation, and the philosophy and psychology of music. He also found time to do some band coaching during which he analyzed Ritmodelia's stage program in a very critical yet constructive manner. The intensive classes, presentations and jam sessions took place over three days from July  25-29 2006.

MARACATU

Scott Kettner the leader of the Maracatu New York School taught us about this obscure yet highly fascinating percussive and vocal tradition from Northern Brazil. Scoot is also a pandeiro virtuoso. He played his instrument on one of the songs from Ritmodelia's debut album. The workshop took place in Cracow in the summer of 2007.

PANDEIRO
Lukasz Szulc from the band Sambasim taught us the basics of playing pandeiro the most Brazilian of all instruments in the fall of 2008. This intensive, couple of hour long course left us hungry for more?
